4. Product Information
How do I choose the right size for gloves, shorts, or shin guards?
There is a detailed size chart in each product page. If you’re unsure, our support team can help with sizing advice for boxing / punching gloves, Muay Thai gloves, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi, or any other items.
What’s the difference between Muay Thai, Boxing and MMA gloves?
Muay Thai and boxing gloves are almost identical, with unnoticable differences in padding and shape. Our gloves work for both boxing and Muay Thai unless specified. MMA gloves are smaller, with less padding and exposed fingers, designed for grappling and striking.
Which type of gloves do I need?
- Factors to consider in gloves
- Glove weight, options are 8,10,12,14,16,and 18 oz gloves. Heavier gloves are bulkier and provide more protection to you and your opponent, but they slow you down very slightly (noticeable for pro and semi-pro fighters).
- Glove closure, options are either with a Velcro strap, or laces similar to those in your shoes. Lace-up gloves fit better, but need effort and someone’s help to wear, while Velcro gloves are slightly less snug, but can be worn quickly and don’t need anyone else’s help.
- 12 oz Velcro Muay Thai and Boxing gloves are the best option if you want one pair of gloves to use on every occasion, otherwise:
- For fights
- Muay Thai and Boxing gloves: 8 or 10 oz for better agility, lace-up for a more snug fit, but Velcro gloves also work.
- MMA gloves: Standard MMA fight gloves.
- For training with sparring
- MuayThai and Boxing gloves: 14, 16 or 18 oz gloves for better protection, Velcro gloves for practicality.
- MMA gloves: check with the gym you’re training in, but Muay Thai and boxing gloves are usually fine, otherwise go for MMA gloves (exposed fingers).
- For training without sparring
- Muay Thai and Boxing gloves: your choice on weight, 12 oz as a good middle-ground, 8-10 oz for better agility, 14-18 oz for better protection. Velcro gloves for practicality.
- MMA: check with the gym you’re training in, but Muay Thai and boxing gloves are usually fine, otherwise go for MMA gloves (exposed fingers).
Do you sell equipment suitable for beginners?
Absolutely — all our equipment is suitable for beginners, from BJJ gis to boxing gloves and everything we sell.
Are your products competition approved?
Most items meet competition standards for Muay Thai, boxing, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). Check your event’s requirements and reach out to us if you’re unsure.
5. Taking care of your gear
How do I clean and maintain my gloves?
- Wipe down after training.
- Use glove deodorizers.
- Avoid leaving boxing gloves or any other equipment in closed bags for long.
- Consider UV or hot-air cleaning devices.
How do I wash Muay Thai shorts without damaging them?
Wash in cold water, avoid tumble-drying, and hand-wash if possible to preserve prints.
How do I keep shin guards from smelling bad?
Air them out after every session and wipe with mild disinfectant. UV cleaning also helps.
How long should combat sports equipment last?
It depends on usage — e.g. fighters may replace boxing gloves every 12–18 months, while casual BJJ or Jiu Jitsu practitioners often use the same gi for years.
6. Personal safety and hygiene
How do I avoid getting hurt while training
- Consult a doctor for proper medical advice on maintaining hygiene and avoiding injuries issues while training, but a few general rules apply
- To minimize risk of physical injury while training (no sparring)
- Train at 80% intensity most of the time, switch to 100% in short sprees (e.g. 50% of one round of hitting the bag), avoid constantly overloading your joints, muscles and bones
- Stop immediately at pain feeling, don’t continue striking with a part of your body that’s hurt. E.g. if your left wrist hurts after a punch, don’t continue punching with your left hand
- Stretch muscles, warm-up joints before complex or high-impact movements, don’t try your highest kick 30 seconds into training, go easy for some minutes and ramp-up gradually you’ll know when your body can go all-out.
- Test hardness of bags before striking properly, keep in mind the top part of a punching bag is softer than the bottom part
- Wrap your hands properly with handwraps
- Wear ankle sleeves
- To minimize risk of physical injury while sparring
- Wear proper protection, well-padded boxing gloves (14 oz and above), mouthguards, shinguards, kneepads, headgear and whatever else needed.
- Play-spar, don’t fight: aim to get into a “flow-state” while sparring, as opposed to trying beat your sparring partner up (they should do the same)
- Agree on basic ground-rules: no striking faces/heads, no shots to ribs, 60% striking power at most.
How do I maintain hygiene standards while training:
- Strictly use your own gear, not common gear offered at gyms, this goes a long way in avoiding skin infections.
- Clean your gear properly after training sessions.
- Shower with antibacterial soap after training, especially if you sparred
- Take extra care in cleaning your feet, assuming you train barefoot
- Wash your hands right after removing boxing gloves
- Choose your gym, avoid ones with poor hygiene standards
- Choose your training partners (similar to gyms), especially when sparring
- If you see someone with pimples or any kind of rash on their hands, feet, legs or any typical striking points, consider dropping out of training altogether to avoid exposure to pathogens
